-

Are you looking to get into medical first aid training?

Working in the medical sector is a fast-growing career field, and there are plenty of roles available. Training is necessary, though, and there are many options depending on where you want to work and what you want to do.

One great option is learning CPR and first aid training. Do you want to invest in this training but are not sure what to expect? If so, you are in the right place. Let’s explore what you need to know.

CPR Training

CPR is a technique that is used to restore breathing and circulation to someone whose heart has stopped beating. During your CPR training, you will learn how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants. The training will cover the following areas:

  • How to recognize the signs of cardiac arrest
  • How to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths
  • How to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • How to perform CPR on children and infants
  • How to perform CPR as a team

First Aid Training

First Aid training covers a wide range of emergency situations. During your training, you will learn how to assess the situation and provide the necessary care. The training will cover the following areas:

  • How to respond to an emergency situation
  • How to assess the situation and prioritize care
  • How to control bleeding and treat wounds
  • How to treat burns and scalds
  • How to manage choking and breathing difficulties
  • How to treat fractures and sprains
  • How to recognize and respond to a heart attack or stroke
  • How to recognize and respond to a seizure
  • How to recognize and respond to shock

Practice Scenarios

The practice scenarios are an important part of CPR and first aid training, as they allow practitioners to put their knowledge and skills into practice.

During practice scenarios, instructors will give learners specific scenarios, such as choking victims or those with heart attacks. Learners will then need to work in teams to carry out the steps they have learned in training, like delivering breaths, compressions, and chest thrusts, as well as administering first aid for choking and heart attacks.

Throughout the practice sessions, instructors will offer guidance and advice so that everyone can successfully deliver the correct actions in line with best practices. This will help equip a learner to deal confidently with life-threatening scenarios in the real world.

Certification

Once you have completed your CPR and first aid training, you will be required to take a certification test. This test will cover the material that you have learned during your training.

Different types of first aid certification tests can include Basic First Aid, Emergency Medical Response, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and First Aid for Trauma Certification tests.

If you pass the test, you will receive a certification card that will be valid for a certain period of time (usually two years). It is important to keep your certification up-to-date by taking refresher courses or recertification exams.
